But there is another market operating underneath this visible chain.

The laptop has not reached the end of its economic life.

It has entered its second life.

This is the foundation of India’s growing refurbished-laptop market.

The industry is evolving from an informal trade in used computers into a broader ecosystem involving corporate IT asset disposition, buybacks, refurbishment, grading, warranties, wholesale distribution, online marketplaces and institutional procurement.


From “used laptop” to “refurbished laptop”

There is an important distinction between a used laptop and a professionally refurbished laptop.

An enterprise may not want to deal individually with thousands of obsolete computers.

Instead, it can appoint a specialist organisation to manage the process.

An ITAD operation can potentially handle:

  • inventory,
  • secure data destruction,
  • valuation,
  • refurbishment,
  • resale,

This makes ITAD much more than a laptop-reselling business.
